    Training FAQ’s

    • Valid, unexpired U.S. passport
    • Original or government-issued birth certificate of the U.S., American Samoa, or Swains Island AND a government-issued picture ID
    • Original certificate of birth abroad with raised seal (Form FS-545 or DS-1350) AND a government-issued picture ID
    • Original certificate of U.S. citizenship with raised seal (Form N-560 or N-561) or a Certificate of Repatriation (Form N-581) AND a government-issued picture ID
    • Original U.S. Naturalization Certificate with raised seal (Form N-550 or N-570) AND a government-issued picture ID

    205 lbs in Robinson R22, 300 lbs in Robinson R44.

    $350/hour (wet) R22 dual, $650/hour (wet) R44 dual – VFR (+$25/hour – IFR)

    40 hours, but most students need more.

    $20-25,000, includes study materials, headset, check-ride, ground instruction, test fees.

    • R22: $229, includes 30 minutes ground and 30 minutes flight (with student at controls).
    • R44: $500, same as above (at our Ramona Municipal Airport location – some exceptions).

    Depends on how often you train, your own abilities, and your study habits. Training 3 days/week you will learn sooner with fewer total hours vs training 1 day/week. On average, 4-6 months.

    Fixed-wing pilots who want to become helicopter pilots do not need to take a written test. Instead, they can learn the helicopter-specific knowledge and then move on to flight training. Transition courses typically require fewer theoretical hours than a basic private pilot course, but still require 40 hours of flight time.
